Summer Reading – Bottomfeeder
In an attempt to curtail my serial-reading habit and actually finish the books that I start, I thought I’d use group therapy. A Swell Life bookclub perhaps?
So I’d like to start with a book I’ve been wanting to read for over a year: Bottomfeeder: How to Eat Ethically in a World of Vanishing Seafood, by Taras Grescoe. Personally, I don’t eat fish - or any animals or animal products. However, I do know that fish oils are incredibly beneficial for the mind and body, many people who eat fish would like to do so more responsibly, and navigating the sustainable fishing issue is a difficult and daunting task.
“Bottomfeeder is a balanced and practical guide to eating -the first book, in fact, to provide readers with a clear explanation of how to choose the best fish for our environment and our bodies”. So let’s sit back and let Grescoe share with us his quest to find out the truth about the fishing industry.
I’d love to hear your comments on the book. Also, check out this article on Ethicurian for a great review of Bottomfeeder, as well as this interview with the author on KCRW’s Good Food.
Happy Reading!
